About

Michaela Dean is a New York-based actor, musician, and writer. She's available for film, television, voiceover, theatre, original music projects, and freelance script reading or supervision. Whether you're casting or collaborating—you're in the right place.

Bio

Born in Colorado and raised in Arizona, Michaela began acting at the age of three after an early, hyperlexic love of reading sparked a fascination with language and storytelling. By seven, she was working professionally in local theatre and regional media. A standout performance at a national showcase led to representation with CESD, launching a career in voiceover that included roles in animated series such as Care BearsPeter Rabbit, and Guess How Much I Love You. Her work in Care Bears earned her the BTVA Award for Best Vocal Performance by a Child, recognizing her command of voice and character from a young age.

Her artistic path expanded in high school with a growing interest in music—particularly choral and musical theatre—which led her to study voice, piano, ukulele, and later guitar. During the pandemic she began experimenting with arranging choral music, later moving to composing original choral and orchestral works in college.

Michaela attended NYU Tisch School of The Arts. She received her primary acting training at the Experimental Theatre Wing, while also pursuing coursework involving linguistics, music theory/composition, history, and critical theory. She spent a semester abroad at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (RADA) in London for a Shakespeare intensive, where she played Julius and Octavius Caeser while also serving as music director and composer for the production. Her original music earned her personal commendation from the Dean of Tisch. She later completed a semester at Stonestreet Studios, focusing on on-camera technique, and also began studying French and furthered her studies of stage combat.

In her final year, she co-created the indie music project Peruvian Bear Club with songwriter Mei Melenovsky, acting as producer, arranger, and vocalist for their forthcoming debut album. She graduated from NYU with honors, having built a body of interdisciplinary work that bridges performance, language, and sound.

A self-driven polymath, Michaela continues to study French and other languages with the goal of becoming a polyglot. She plays an ever-expanding list of instruments and sees music as a lifelong companion to her work as an actor and creator.

She takes a philosophical and cerebral approach to performance—interested in the body as an archive, the voice as resistance, and character as a lens for inquiry. Politically engaged and critically minded, she aspires to create art that challenges dominant narratives and asks difficult questions. Above all, Michaela is fueled by curiosity: a love of learning that informs her every performance and powers her pursuit of characters, roles, and collaborations that demand transformation.
